To be determined series

Playing on both meanings of the phrase To Be Determined, a portrait series by artist Morgan Davis highlights the expansiveness of Black queerness and how it can't be determined by sociopolitical norms — while also emphasizing that, as Black queer people, we must remain determined to resist those biases.

What started as a one-time project in July 2026 (that culminated in a 1-day pop-up exhibition) has since expanded into an ongoing portrait project.

Each month, an array of Black queer folks (predominantly based in the DMV area and Baltimore) across generations, identities, aesthetics, and relationships will be featured here alongside Morgan's Instagram and TikTok with tailored portraits and accompanying interviews.

The series operates in four-month "seasons." Each season culminates in a physical pop-up exhibition in the DMV area, providing an opportunity for community, connection, and engagement with the series and photos in person -- functioning as both an artistic experience and a communal archive.
